Two-time Grammy award winner Ben Harper is the latest artist to join the line-up for the Tibet House U.S. 17th Annual Carnegie Hall Benefit Concert on Monday, February 26th. Philip Glass, the concert’s Artistic Director, once again brings together an original line-up including performance artist and musician Laurie Anderson, Rock and Roll Hall of fame inductees Ray Davies (1990), Deborah Harry (2006), Lou Reed (1996), Patti Smith (2007) and Michael Stipe (2007) of the famed band R.E.M.; and Icelandic indie rockers Sigur Ros, Tibet House U.S. marks its 20th anniversary this year. Actress Uma Thurman is the event’s Honorary Chair.

The concert assembles some of the biggest names in contemporary music and offers audiences a mix of unprecedented musical collaborations and solo offerings. Past concerts have featured such talents as David Bowie, Paul Simon, Sheryl Crow, Moby, Bright Eyes, Natalie Merchant, Rufus Wainwright Emmylou Harris, Live, and Damien Rice, among many others.

The Tibet House Benefit Concert commemorates the Monlam Prayer Festival traditionally held at the time of the Tibetan New Year. The festival drew vast numbers of monks, citizens and pilgrims from all over the country who gathered to pray for world peace and prosperity. Tibet House U.S. is a non-profit organization founded in 1987 at the behest of His Holiness the Dalai Lama that serves as a center for the preservation and presentation of the endangered Tibetan culture.

This annual fundraiser supports the work of Tibet House U.S. Each year a portion of the event proceeds are shared with other charitable organizations. This year’s recipients are the local Tibetan group, Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey, Farm Aid, and the Karin Berg Fund for the Myositis Support Group.

Carnegie Hall is located at 881 Seventh Avenue (at 57th Street). Concert tickets are $35 to $108 and can be purchased by calling CarnegieCharge at (212) 247-7800 or in-person at the Carnegie Hall Box Office. A fundraising reception with the event’s Honorary Chairpersons and artists will be held following the performance.
